Family impact survey
Family Impact Survey 2024 is now closed.
A huge thank you to all who took the time to complete the survey we had over 1200 responses!!
With that number of responses, it will take us considerable time to analyse the huge amount of data you’ve provided. Additionally, the upcoming Easter Holiday period is, understandably, a busy time for us as SEND parent/carers. We anticipate the report will be ready to share at the beginning of May.

Why do we conduct this survey?
We conduct this survey to measure the current levels of parental satisfaction with local services for SEND Families and to compare with the data collected within our previous surveys.
As the Parent Carer Forum we acknowledge that there seems to be unprecedented pressure within the “system” with regard to capacity and resources available to meet the needs of children and young people and we know that families that are being greatly impacted by these issues.
We know that there is work being undertaken to improve services for children and young people with SEND and there is a greater focus on SEND within the Local Area – so now is the time to make our voices heard!!
There are pockets of good practice which need to be highlighted and held up as the standard to reach, however, we are also aware that families’ experiences are still inconsistent and can vary greatly.
Just over 50 years ago our children had no legal right to an education – the fact that those rights are now enshrined in law is thanks to families whose voices brought about that change.
The voice of the family is the most powerful one of all – it is how things are improved!
Our Family Impact Survey is now recognised as the barometer for what life is really like for SEND families in Essex. Make sure your voice is represented!

What difference will it make?
This survey will help identify where there is positive impact from the changes being made, but also what the barriers to a positive experience for families still are. As the Parent Carer Forum we use your feedback in this survey to influence further policy decisions and work to develop support and information for families.
There are many things that are being developed specifically as a result of parental feedback. Essex County Council have provided an update on some of the ongoing work that is being undertaken. Please click on the image to learn more.
